Editorial policy

Editorial policy

The standards every page on this site is held to. They are the rules we would want a review site we relied on to follow.

Sourcing

Every factual claim traces to something a reader can open. Features, pricing, trials and positioning come from the vendor's own site. Reputation and real-world experience come from public user reports. We do not publish a claim we cannot source, and we do not invent quotes, statistics, prices or people.

Quotes

When we quote a user, it is a verbatim excerpt, never a paraphrase dressed up in quotation marks, and it links to the original thread. We publish both praise and criticism, so a review shows what people who left the tool complained about, not only what fans say.

Independence

Rankings are set on the evidence before any commercial conversation, and no vendor sees a verdict, ranking or score before it publishes. An affiliate relationship never changes an order or softens a verdict. Read how we make money.

Fairness to a tool we may recommend

A tool we rank highly still gets its real drawbacks stated plainly, in context. We describe who a tool is for and who it is not for, so a strength for one reader reads honestly as a mismatch for another.

Corrections and updates

Prices and features change. Each tool page shows the date we last checked it, and money pages carry a dated log of edits. When we get something wrong, we fix it and note what changed. If you spot an error, send it to us with a source.

Who is accountable

Reviews are led by a named reviewer and edited by the Play That Sells desk. The people behind the bylines are on the masthead.
